History of the refinery
The refinery has one of the Russia's largest pyrolysis units that can use different kinds of hydrocarbon feedstock, including straight-run gasoline, propane-butane fraction, and BFLH. The enterprise was upgraded to increase the share of gas component in the processed feedstock allowing to monetize the Caspian APG with maximum efficiency.
Gas is supplied to the plant where it is separated into natural gas liquids and dry stripped gas. Natural gas liquids are supplied to a pyrolysis unit to be processed into petrochemical products, while dry gas goes to a power generating unit and to Gazprom's gas transportation system.
In 2017, retrofitting of polyethylene production facilities at Stavrolen was mostly completed.
