KRAVTSOVSKOYE (D-6) OFFSHORE OIL FIELD: LUKOIL PUBLISHES RESULTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

{ 12/28/2012 12:00:00 AM }

LUKOIL has summarized the 2011 environmental monitoring outcomes for the offshore oil field Kravtsovskoye (D-6) in the Baltic Sea.

The marine environment monitoring was conducted in the immediate vicinity of the fixed offshore ice-resistant platform. The meteorological information was collected by means of an automated weather station installed on the platform, as well as from onshore weather stations. The bottom macroflora monitoring and that of the petroleum product concentration in water were conducted in the coastal zone.

The satellite sea monitoring covered the Russian, Polish and Lithuanian sectors of the Baltic Sea.

Around 200 radar images from the ENVISAT, RADARSAT-1 and RADARSAT-2 satellites were received and analyzed in 2011. Forty-four oil spills were traced, including 20 spills in the monitoring coverage.

At the same time, no oil spills were traced in the vicinity of the fixed offshore ice-resistant platform and the subsea pipeline route. Vessels are considered major pollution sources of the sea water, in the same way as before.

In general, the environmental monitoring did not indicate any negative environmental impacts from the offshore oil production and confirmed the efficiency of the environmental safety measures implemented by LUKOIL at Kravtsovskoye field (D-6).

The complete version of the 2011 environmental monitoring report can be found at the following Internet address: http://www.lukoil.com/static_6_5id_2114_.html.

LUKOIL has been conducting annual environmental monitoring at Kravtsovskoye field (D-6) since 2003. Oil production at the field started in 2004.

The 2012 environmental monitoring outcomes will be published in mid-2013.
