LUKOIL CONDUCTS INTERNATIONAL COMPREHENSIVE EMERGENCY TRAINING EXERCISES IN THE BALTIC SEA

Today, international comprehensive emergency training exercises were conducted in the offshore area of the oil terminal of LUKOIL-II Distribution and Transshipment Center, Vysotsk, Leningrad Region, to liquidate the oil tanker accident consequences.

The scenario of the exercises included training to respond to fuel oil spill resulting from breached tanker leaks. Another component was practical training in fire prevention, evacuation of the injured and the rendering of medical aid. In addition, coast protection work was performed to decontaminate the coastline. Petroleum products were gathered in shallow water using the self-propelled platform of vacuum oil gathering plants.

Boom-laying boats, oil skimmers, a storage tanker and helicopters were involved in the exercises. Oil contamination was monitored using environmental control vessels.

The exercises were conducted using the teams and technical tools of OAO RPK-Vysotsk LUKOIL-II, FGUP Baltic Basin Emergency and Rescue Department, OOO Ekoshelf-Baltika, OOO Spetsmornefteport Primorsk, EMERCOM of the Russian Federation and specialized Finnish vessels.

The results of the exercises showed that LUKOIL has in place adequate resources and tools to prevent and liquidate the consequences of oil spills in the oil terminal area.
