LUKOIL PRESIDENT VAGIT ALEKPEROV RECEIVES ORTHODOX ORDER OF PRINCE DANIIL OF MOSCOW

His Holiness Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, awarded Vagit Alekperov, OAO LUKOIL President, with the First Degree Order of the Holy Blessed Prince Daniil of Moscow for his great personal contribution towards the resurrection and progress of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow today.
The order of Daniil of Moscow is awarded both to the clergy and laity for great contributions to the resurrection of spiritual life in Russia.
“I regard this award as appreciation of the activities of all of the Company’s work collectives as regards cooperation with the Russian Orthodox Church which plays a great role in the spiritual and moral development of modern man,” Vagit Alekperov said.
LUKOIL plays a full role in the process of resurrection and development of church and spiritual centers in Russia and abroad. Specifically, the Company supports restoration works at the Vvedensky Monastery of Optina Pustyn, construction of the metochion of the Chapel of Three Sanctifiers of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. LUKOIL’s enterprises in the Volgograd region support the Church of Archangel Michael and the Konstantino-Eleninsky Church. In the Kaliningrad region support is given to the Church in the Name of Madonna Icon and in the Perm region to the Bogoyavlensky (Epiphany) Monastery, the Uspensky (Assumption) Convent, and the Monastery in the Name of the Holy Kingly Passion-bearers. In Odessa LUKOIL participated in the restoration of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Cathedral, in Baku in the restoration of the Marine Cathedral and of the Church of the Myrrh-bearing Women. In addition, LUKOIL supported reconstruction of the Kipriyanovsky Monastery and the Monastery in Kurky in Moldova, the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in New York, the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Vienna, the Cathedral of Nicholas the Sanctifier and Miracle Worker in Bobruisk, and the Uspensky (Assumption) Cathedral in Budapest. The Company also allocated funds for the restoration and reconstruction of the orthodox cemetery of the Holy Martyr George Monastery in Cairo.
