LUKOIL’s subsidiary, Arkhangelskgeoldobycha, has topped the environmental responsibility rating of mining and oil and gas producing companies. The results of the rating, organized upon the initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, were announced in UN representative office in Moscow, Russia.
In total, thirty three major companies were appraised in a large scale survey, based on the following criteria: environmental policies and management, environmental impact, disclosures and transparency.
As WWF-Russia’s director of environmental protection policy Evgeniy Schwartz puts it, “The appraisal methodology is absolutely new and was elaborated by WWF in cooperation with the companies. It was highly valued and acknowledged appropriate by representatives of Rosprirodnadzor, which allow application of these rating methods for state monitoring and controlling of natural resources”.
