The first shipment of equipment needed to treat patients who contracted the coronavirus infection arrived to Usinsk (the Republic of Komi). LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov had donated 50 million rubles of personal funds to outfit its Central District Hospital.
The hospital received 50 types of equipment, including ECG recorders, expendable supplies and individual protective gear for its medical personnel. Artificial respiration units, bedside monitors and surgical beds are to be delivered and installed in the near future.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the leader of LUKOIL for his support of Usinsk healthcare. We received equipment and supplies that are highly sought-after under current conditions. It will allow us to outfit our hospital for the efficient fight against COVID-19," noted Nikolay Takayev, Head of Usinsk Municipality and Chief of Administration.
"This shipment is much-needed, as the entire healthcare system is now working under a great strain. This manifests itself in the sheer quantity of resources we use: both human and physical. So we really needed individual protective gear, as well as sanitizers," said Maxim Churkin, the head physician of the Central District Hospital of Usinsk.
The epidemiologic situation in Usinsk remains one of the most difficult when compared to other cities and settlements in the Republic of Komi. As an industrialized city, Usinsk attracts a great number of non-resident workers, which leads to higher risks of COVID-19 dissemination. At the end of April, authorities of Usinsk introduced restrictive epidemic prevention measures in the city. Those measures are still in force.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, LUKOIL has donated more than 652 million rubles in 22 Russian regions and almost 900 thousand dollars in its operation countries abroad to treat patients and fight the spread of the disease.
