Environment

LUKOIL is guided by the highest environmental standards. The main priorities of the Company are efficient use of natural resources and maintenance of a favorable environment in the regions of the Group's presence.

LUKOIL's strategic objective is to ensure consistent mitigation of the man-caused environmental and climatic impact through the introduction of the best available technologies, equipment, and through improved automation of engineering process management.

Environmental management

The Environmental Management System is part of the Integrated Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management System.

Clean water

The Group’s Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream entities are all consumers of water, including that from the sea.

Clean air

Reduction of atmospheric emissions of production-associated pollutants is a series of priority activities under the Environmental Safety Program grouped together to form the “Clean air” subprogram.

Clean Soil

Oil and gas production activities unfailingly involve condemnation of land, thus resulting in contamination of soils and deterioration of habitats of plants and animals.

Waste

The Company’s approach to management of its processing waste includes prevention of its above-limit accumulation on the premises of the LUKOIL Group entities, placement on dedicated sites that are compliant with up-to-date requirements, and timely and safe disposal thereof.

Environmental Monitoring

The industrial environmental monitoring system was deployed at offshore and transportation facilities, and allows to assess their environmental impact in a timely manner.

Biodiversity

Preserving natural ecosystems and biodiversity is of economic, environmental and social importance, it builds an efficient habitat, and constitutes a major factor for human health.
